A couple of points:
Teachers' Domain was never intended for independent student online work. (If it was, we would have called it "Students' Domain". )

We've made a few improvements to Teachers' Domain in the past few months that address some of your concerns:
--We now have a more robust server so the sluggishness you mention should be a thing of the past. (Although as usage grows, so will the server load -- we'll be keeping a close eye on that.)
-- We have added a "test drive" feature that allows access to the service without registration for a limited time.

I would encourage you to and your readers to give TD another try and let us know what you think. We would be particularly grateful to hear if you continue to get error pages, or if you have specific suggestions about how to streamline the sharing of resources. Your input is very helpful as we continue to build and improve.
